Turner boys take Cougars

TIFTON — The Turner County Rebels and Lady Rebels split non-region basketball games against the Crisp County Cougars Friday. The boys won their game, 74-63, but the girls lost, 51-48.

Turner had a 38-32 at halftime of the boys game. Crisp put up 20 points in the 3rd and went into the 4th trailing, 55-52. However, the Rebels shut them down in the final quarter, holding them to 11 points.

Nate Martin scored 16 to lead the squad while Antonio Graddic scored 12, Shaq Baldwin 11 and Iman Holley had 10. The Rebels are now 17-4.

The Lady Cougars marched out to a 6-point lead at the conclusion of the 1st period and it was enough to hold on. Both scored 8 in the 2nd, with Turner behind 19-13 at halftime. Crisp outscored them by a point in the 3rd. After three quiet periods, both teams exploded in the 4th. The Lady Rebels scored 25, but Crisp nearly kept pace with 23, which proved to be enough for the win.

Xariah Office paced her team with 15 with Mylashia Yancey adding 13. The team is also now 17-4.

The Rebels return to region action tonight when they face the Irwin County Indians in Ocilla.

This weekend, they will be at Clinch County on Friday and Lanier County on Saturday.
