Rants & Raves - January 28

TIFTON —

Well now...Let’s get a few things straight. TC didn’t spend money on the recent wrestling match. It was 6th-8th graders. No other school participated because they were not invited! Our wrestling team has a Boosters Club just like the football team in town where businesses and parents donate for children to be a part of an organized sport. That rant had to be written by a person who is not in the wrestling program because the wrestling program supports itself. It is the only program in the school system that does not have matching uniforms to represent this county yet these kids, coaches and parents travel and win!

Young people are not willing to open a small bookstore because they have to compete against Amazon. They can't open an appliance store because they have to compete against Lowe's and Home Depot.

This rant is against the change in our culture that is ruining the ability of young people to own the business rather than work as a peon.

I'm an independent with a tendency to err on the side of freedom – take that how you will – and I don't have much concern for the poor planning in the Benghazi incident. It's just typical bureaucratic failure. So why are you so upset about it and the man who was president 14 years ago? I'll tell you why: Fox News and AFR tell you to be upset about it.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention there are an average of 88,000 deaths per year attributable to the effects of alcohol. No one has ever died from a marijuana overdose anywhere in the world throughout recorded history. It's not possible. You could drink yourself to death this afternoon due to alcohol poisoning. You would have to ingest, in one dose, 40,000 times the amount of marijuana necessary to get high in order to cause death. The recent claim made in this column that Bill Clinton smoked marijuana with Monica Lewinsky is a lie. Show us the evidence.

The rules of the Historic District place a lot of bureaucratic restrictions on what people in that district can do with their property. To what end? The city should hold a referendum and let the people decide if they want to continue this situation.

People may fool others and cause defamation of character, but Jesus Christ sees all.
