Rants & Raves - January 16

I certainly hope that families of anyone involved in the wreck on I-75 were notified before pictures were placed on Facebook. Whether they were from here or not doesn't matter. There was no need for any pictures to be put on Facebook. If the sheriff uses Facebook to notify people of things going on, it certainly could be done without pictures. Work the scene and worry about Facebook after the fact.
I have read the recap of the commissioners meeting over and over. I find it very hard to believe a hometown lawyer would make such statements about existing local businesses. The worst that exists in this county is hardly Subway or McDonald’s and I seriously doubt a tractor dealership would be either. The owners and employees of these businesses deserve an apology from this man and the group he represents. The tractor dealer should run from Tift County as fast as possible to a place where jobs are considered important.
At last week's City Council workshop, the mayor repeatedly said his desire is to have uniform sign regulations that apply to all the commercial districts of the city. Wow! Picture downtown storefronts with lighted signs like that along I-75 by the UGA Tifton Conference Center! (Yes, the Conference Center is within the city limits.)
Commissioner Sherry Miley said that Tift County is "pro-growth" when she and the other commissioners voted to deny rezoning that would bring jobs to Tift County. We hear you talking, but your actions speak louder than words. You refuse to rezone property to allow new growth, you refuse to successfully get the city of Tifton to charge the same rate for water/sewer in the county as is charged in the city and you refuse to develop a suitable plan for a bypass. Since I'm your employer, I'm planning to fire you at the next election.
