Turner takes two Tuesday from Warner Robins

ASHBURN — It took overtime, but the Turner County Rebels are still undefeated after a Tuesday night showdown with the Warner Robins Demons. The girls also extended their unbeaten streak after a 39-32 win.

The score was tied at 66 with less than a minute remaining when Quan Hillmon was fouled on a made basket. His free throw was good, making it 69-66.

It looked like the Rebels would hang on, but with 3.3 seconds remaining, Warner Robins hit a deep three to send the game to overtime.

Turner’s depth would be key in the extra session, as well as a few Demon mistakes. Nate Martin’s charity toss made it a 78-74 Rebel lead with 27 seconds left. He would later hit two more to seal the 82-78 win.

The boys contest started slow, with Turner’s main firepower coming off the bench. Hillmon had half of their total as they took a 12-8 lead after a quarter.

Warner Robins charged back over the next 8 minutes, outscoring the Rebels 26-14 to have the lead at halftime.

The second half turned into a seesaw battle. The Demons remained hot after the half, but Turner began heating up with 3-pointers from Martin and Quan Williams. It was a 47-45 Demon lead after the 3rd.

Hillmon finished with 19 points. Martin and Shaq Baldwin added 15 each. Williams had 13, 10 coming in overtime. Antonio Graddic scored 11 and collected 9 rebounds.

The girls contest turned out to be a defensive one. Turner took a 9-7 lead after the 1st period and were able to mostly keep the Lady Demons away from the basket in the 2nd as they extended their advantage to 18-13.

Warner Robins cut the lead to three heading into the final quarter, but Mylashia Yancey stepped up for the Lady Rebels, scoring 8 of their 14 points. She finished with 18.

Turner County’s boys (3-0) will travel to Augusta to play in the Best of the Best tournament against Aquinas and Keenan S.C. this weekend.
