Firebirds host Crusaders

TIFTON — The Georgia Firebirds return to action Saturday night. They will square off with the Panhandle (Fla.) Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. in a Gridiron Development Football League contest.

This is the first of two consecutive home games for the team, who come into the contest with a 1-3 mark.

The Firebirds dropped last Saturday's game to the Florida Stingrays, 22-6, and are hoping to bounce back this week. They are also hoping that home is the answer as they were defeated 41-6 by the Crusaders at Pensacola.

Several players look to be back from injuries this week and the team is also unveiling a new quarterback for the home fans. Traveon Register is the new man under center. He is a former Cook High Hornet and was named to the All-State team by both The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Associated Press in 2010.

Panhandle is 2-1 this year and on a two-game winning streak after losing their opener to the East Alabama Predators.

Following their homestand, the Firebirds play three straight on the road.

Firebirds home games are played at the Tift County High Mini Stadium at 1 Blue Devil Way. Admission is $5, with children 10 and under admitted free.
