Donald Gene “Don” Malloy

ALPINE, Ala. — Donald Gene “Don” Malloy, 67, of Alpine, Ala. died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the home of his mother, Dot Malloy, in Irwin County. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakridge Cemetery with Dr. Fred Evers officiating.

Pallbearers are Richard Skellie, Michael Coumanis, Matthew Minshew, Bobby Malloy, Andrew Malloy, Ben Holmes and Kennie Malloy.

Mr. Malloy was born May 5, 1947 in Bonifay, Fla. to Dorothy “Dot” Herrington Malloy and the late Allie B. Malloy, who died in 2005. He was a graduate of Tift County High School and attended Auburn University. He joined the U.S. Army, where he received his flight training. He later served in the U.S. National Guard.

Mr. Malloy was a helicopter pilot for Omniflight by Air Methods. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, kayaking and quail hunting. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Erin and Michael Coumanis of Spanish Fort, Ala., Meribeth Malloy of Oxford, Miss., Allie B. Malloy and Richard and Elsie Skellie of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Sophia Skellie, Sara Kate Skellie, Christian Coumanis, Cole Coumanis and Callie Coumanis; brothers, Kennie Malloy of Tifton and Bobby Malloy of New Palestine, Ind.; and a sister, Kay Malloy of Dislodge, Mo.
