Schools receive incentive grants

TIFTON — The Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence recently awarded the 2014-15 incentive grants. Sixteen teachers at 10 schools will be able to put good ideas into practice. The total amount awarded was $19,276.

This is the 25th year the grants have been awarded. During that period, 658 grants have been awarded for a total of $438,734.. Eleven of the 16 grants were funded under the 11 endowed academic chairs. The newest chair, the Julian Cannon Writing Skills Chair, will generate its first grant in 2015.

Thirty-eight grant applications were received and carefully evaluated by the grants committee, chaired by foundation Director PJ Kemeness. The chairs committee under Syd Blackmarr then pairs grants to chairs, if a match is determined.

The grants were delivered to the winning teachers last week by foundation liaisons, who provide a critical link between the foundation and each school.  Students will enjoy the benefits  during the 2014-15 school year.

The grants were as follows: Darah Wells, Pre-K Center, $3,000; Amy Whitley, Annie Belle Clark, $418; Leah Johnston, Northside Primary, $753; Donna Woods, G.O. Bailey, $153; Marisol Griffis, G.O. Bailey, $1,550; Niecy Tompkins, G.O. Bailey, $910; Emy Aultman, G.O. Bailey, $1,500; Savannah Harvin, G.O. Bailey, $600; Brent Hatton, Omega School, $931; Terri Nalls, Charles Spencer, $2,000; Temeka Butts, Matt Wilson, $500; Julie Gunn, J.T. Reddick, $2,100; Sue Palmer, J.T. Reddick, $1,393; Elaine Willis, TCHS/NE Campus, $868; Joanie Davis, TCHS, $1,300; and Gloria Beard, TCHS, $1,300.
