Tiftarea Academy recently competed in the junior varsity region track meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany on May 8. Based on results, the future looks bright for the Panthers, who won many of the individual championships.
First place went to Michael Garvey in shot put (36'9") and discus (103'7"). Josh Jones won long jump with a leap of 15'11.5". Abby Carswell completed the sweep for the ladies, winning at 14'2.5". Carswell took another win the 100-meter dash, running it in 13.83 and in the 400-meter run, completing it in 1:06.18. Hannah Branch took 1st in 75-meter hurdles with a time of 10.87 seconds.
Several others finished as runners-up. Kassidy Goodman's 27'3 was good for 2nd in shot put. Jackson Lee (14'10") and Morgan McKay (13'2") in long jump. McKay was also 2nd in the 75-meter hurdles at 11.06 seconds with Lee as runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 13.08 seconds. Branch was 2nd only to her teammate in the 100 meters at 13.89. Carswell came in 2nd in the 200-meter dash (28.41). Maddie Harper was runner-up in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter. Her time was 3:03 in the former and 6:35 in the latter.

Boys discus: Cameron Kozma (3rd, 73'11"), Cason Royal (4th, 74').
Girls long jump: Branch (3rd, 13'1"), Hunt (4th, 12'8")
Boys 75-meter hurdles: Lee (4th, 10.46)
Boys 100-meter: Josh Jones (4th, 12.82)
Girls 100-meter: McKay (3rd, 14.9), Grace Hall (14.26)
Girls 200-meter: Branch (3rd, 29.65), McKay (4th, 20.64)
Boys 800-meter: Alex Talton (3rd, 2:43.45)
