Ruth Inez Reagan Sumner

TIFTON — Ruth Inez Reagan Sumner, 91, of Tifton died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Oakridge Cemetery with Darrell Sumner and other family members officiating. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Sumner was born Oct. 24, 1922 in Duncan, Okla. to the late Joe C. and Minnie Farra Reagan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James E. Sumner; three brothers; and a grandson, Kenneth Sumner, who died in 2004. She was a homemaker and a nurse. In 1973, she went to nursing school, became a nurse and worked until her retirement in 1992 at the age of 70. Mrs. Sumner attended Grace Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, traveling, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Barbara Sumner of Lenox, Don and Linda Sumner of Tifton and Dale and Delores Sumner of Temple; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Tom Surles of Covington; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother, Shirley Howard and Billie Dennis, both of Arlington, Texas, and Kenneth Reagan of Spokane, Wash.

    LEOs and first responders honored at banquet

    A room full of local law enforcement and first responders were honored Thursday night by the Tifton Elks Lodge at their annual Public Safety Officer Appreciation and Awards Banquet for their service in the community.
    Prior to the awards being given out, Louise Spradley, who organized the banquet, welcomed everyone, and the invocation and pledge were led by the Tift County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
