Richard Franklin “Dick” Kelley

TIFTON — Richard Franklin “Dick” Kelley, 93, of Tifton died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia. A celebration of life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the American Legion hall, 1224 Moore Highway, Tifton, GA 31794. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Everyone is invited to attend.

Mr. Kelley was born April 12, 1921 in Nashville to the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Jane Hawkins Kelley. He was also preceded in death by three grandchildren, five brothers and five sisters. He was a farmer and a graduate of Tift County, Chula School.

He served in the United States Navy during WWII with the Atlantic Fleet. Mr. Kelley was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He loved meeting and talking to people, fishing, playing pool, reading and dancing. He was an avid NASCAR, Falcon and Bulldog fan. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Kelley is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy M. Rowe Kelley of Tifton; his five sons and their wives, Jessie and Gail Kelley of Sumner, Franklin and Debra Kelley of Tifton, Malcolm and Janet Kelley of Ty Ty, Johnny Kelley and David and Jeanie Kelley, all of Tifton; a special nephew, Alton and his wife, Carol Cromer, of Aiken, S.C.; special children, Kenny Connell and Charles Connell, both of Tifton, and Phyllis Price of Sycamore; and 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion, P.O. Box 311, Tifton, GA 31793, or to any veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice.
