Gertrude Elizabeth “Trudy” Riner


Gertrude Elizabeth “Trudy” Riner, 87 died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 in Ogeechee Area Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Elder Bill Durrence officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.

Trudy was born in Charleston, S.C. and lived in Ocilla for many years before moving to Statesboro in May 2012. Trudy was a member of Sturgeon Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Fitzgerald and was a devoted minister’s wife, moving with her husband throughout Georgia and South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Maurice Clyde Riner; daughters, JoAnn Riner Ryals and Pamela Jane Riner; sisters, Gloria Collins and Mary Haynie.

Mrs. Riner is survived by three sons, Donald Clyde Riner of Ocilla, Earl Bruce Riner of Albany and James Randall Riner (Renee) of Monroe; daughter, Beverly Riner Long (Ray) of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Marcy Jill Sanders, Jessica Riner Sandow, Emily Sandow Arrington and Bryan Brantley Riner; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
