Omega Elementary School placed on lock down

TIFTON — A shooting in Omega Wednesday results in one man’s death after being life-flighted due to a gunshot wound to the head.

According to David Haire, public information officer at the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, and Omega Police Chief Eric Windmoller, a call came in to 911 from a resident on Alabama Avenue at approximately 11:55 a.m.

Officials with the Omega Police Department and TCSO responded to a residence located at 1566 Georgia Ave., where the victim was discovered. Haire said the individual had been shot in the head and was life-flighted to an area hospital. Windmoller confirmed later Wednesday afternoon that the victim, Tyler Johnson, had died.

He and Haire also confirmed that four suspects are in custody. More details on the incident had not been released at press time.

Windmoller said the OPD, TCSO, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Department of Natural Resources are assisting in this case.

Due to protocol, Omega Elementary School was locked down Wednesday afternoon following the incident.
