Betty Pless Vickers

FITZGERALD — Betty Pless Vickers, 70, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Tift Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Steve Hand officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in Tift Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Vickers was born Sept. 17, 1943 in Turner County to the late John Larkin and Zora West Pless Sr.. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Vickers, who died in 2004, and a special nephew, Monty Pate.

Mrs. Vickers graduated from Turner County High School. She retired after many years of service from the Tifton Women’s Center. Mrs. Vickers was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Ben Hill County, Order Of The Eastern Star and the Red Hat Society of Ben Hill County. She loved all animals, especially her pets, and was very active in the prevention of animal cruelty and neglect.

She is survived by a sister, Madeline Pless Spillers of Atlanta; two sisters-in-law, Edna Pless of Tifton and Florence Pless of Corpus Christie, Texas; a special friend and caregiver, Cindy Gunter of Tifton; as well as several nieces and nephews, including special nieces who she was very close to, Sandra Pless Pate, Tina Pate, Kim Pate, Lexi Pate and Ally Pate.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Quailwood Animal Hospital for the Betty Vickers Animal Rescue Fund, 4024 N. Tift Ave., Tifton, GA 31794 or Mt. Olive Baptist Church c/o Milton Huggins, 709 Ocilla Hwy., Fitzgerald, GA 31750.
