Michael Gene Grimes

TIFTON — Michael Gene Grimes, 61, of Tifton, died Sunday, June 15, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sam Rogers, the Rev. Paula Lewis and the Rev. Benjy Varnell officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. The family will be meeting at the home of Mrs. Sarah Grimes, 1908 Melba Dr. Tifton.

Pallbearers will be Tyron Spearman, Russell Greene, David Cooper, Cooper Henry, Mace Henry, Brett Henry, Sean White and Ernest Barnes. Honorary pallbearers are the choir members of First United Methodist Church and his Cardiac Rehab Class.

Mr. Grimes was born March 12, 1953 in Pensacola, Fla. to Sarah Ruth Henry Grimes of Tifton and the late Gene Grimes who died in 1992. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Mitchell Keith Grimes who died in 2003. Mr. Grimes was a graduate of Athens High School in Athens. He retired after 33 years from Exopack. As a member of the First United Methodist Church, he enjoyed singing in the choir. Mr. Grimes loved sports especially the Georgia Bulldogs and Tift County Blue Devils. He loved fishing, music, his bulldog “GG” and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, who he married Feb. 6, 1981, Deborah Jo White Grimes of Tifton; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Dawn Grimes of Enigma; daughter, Hannah Ruth Grimes of Tifton; grandchildren, Maggie Grace Grimes and Marlee Dawn Grimes; sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Pat Patton of Macon; sister-in-law, Rhonda Grimes; and two nieces, Sarah Anne Patton and Laina Michelle Grimes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Music Ministry, 107 W. 12th St. Tifton, GA 31794.
