Tiftarea’s Folsom inks with Florida State Seminoles

TIFTON — It takes senior leadership to have a successful season in high school sports.

As proof look at the 2014 Tiftarea Academy Panthers baseball team. Led by six seniors, the Panthers finished as state runners-up in GISA Class AAA.

The talent in that class has shown, as three of six have signed to play baseball at various colleges.

The third of those players, Taylor Folsom, has inked with the Florida State University Seminoles, Panther Head Coach Brad Porter informed The Gazette Wednesday.

Folsom, a senior left-handed pitcher for the Panthers in 2014, is set to complete orientation and begin summer classes next week.

During his final year at Tiftarea, Folsom was 6-2 overall with a 1.39 ERA. He had an impressive 80 strike outs in 60 innings of work.

Porter said Folsom was named first-team All-Region, All-State and was a state Senior All-Star.

Florida State is excited about Folsom coming to the Tallahassee school.

"We are thrilled that Taylor is a Seminole. We have big plans for him. It will be exciting to watch him grow and develop both as a young man and a baseball player," Mike Martin Jr., son of the Seminoles’ legendary Head Coach Mike Martin, as well as the FSU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

"Taylor's hard work and dedication have created this opportunity to play at FSU. We are extremely proud of him and know he will do well," Porter said.

Folsom is the seventh senior from Tiftarea Academy to be able to continue his baseball career and education at the next level.
