Plenty of tumbles for TGA campers

TIFTON — Some children were being bounced around in Tifton Tuesday morning. There was no cause for alarm, though, as they seemed to enjoy it.

These children were part of Tift Gymnastics Academy's summer camp. Tuesday's session was composed of five: four girls and a single boy. The gender makeup seemed to matter little, as he was having as much fun as the rest.

Chelsea Satterfield, an instructor who was in charge of the group, said they did a warm-up, followed by "games, an hour of events, a snack, games and free time."

Satterfield said the camp lasted for nine weeks over the summer.

Some of the events Satterfield led them through were walking on the balance beam, somersaults and cartwheels. The somersaults were then applied to an incline mat and an octagon, as they learned how to tumble backwards.

Several picked up the skill fast as they were performing their own somersaults on the incline without assistance.

As the campers moved from activity to activity, they were surrounded by TGA's more experienced gymnasts. Occasionally, their routines would draw the group's attentions, but mostly they focused on their own fun.
