Downtown Tifton Farmer’s Market opens Saturday

TIFTON — The Downtown Tifton Farmer’s Market will open Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The market, located on the platform of the historical Tifton Terminal Railway Museum, will highlight many past favorites along with new vendors for great selection of fresh produce, fruits, baked goods, seafood, jams and jellies, plants and flowers, and artisan crafts.

This year’s grand opening features activities for all ages including the third annual “Run to the Market,” the Cars & Coffee at Mi-Lady Bakery, unique artifacts at the Tifton Terminal Railway Museum and various free fun-filled activities for children and adults alike. Events will continue into the evening with The Bistro at 219 with live entertainment provided by Garrett Newell. Also opening for the evening will be Verona’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria and La Cabana Mexican Restaurant.

The “Run to Market” 5K starts at the Tifton Terminal Railway Museum site with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Applications are currently being accepted, and all 5K participants will receive an official 2014 “Run to the Market” T-shirt. Pre-registration is $20, with late registration of $25 available on the day of the event.

Schedule of Events

• The Cars & Coffee will be held in the Mi-Lady Bakery parking lot beginning at 7 a.m. Mi-Lady Bakery will be open for business during this time, so come and enjoy the delicious food and classic cars. Free coffee for Cars & Coffee participants. Mi-Lady Bakery will also have a 50/50 drawing with proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.

• Live Entertainment will be on the Tifton Garden Stage from 10 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. featuring Bailey Lawson, Jordan Ball, Temekia Reese and Mackenzie Brown. Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the morning’s entertainment.

• Perrin Farm Equipment, Lassiter Tractor and Patrick Tractor Company will have farm equipment on display.

• Faith of Twisted Sisters will provide free face painting for kids.

• A huge bouncy house provide by Philgood Entertainment will be available, and is free.

• The Bistro at 219 will continue in the evening to commemorate the opening of the Downtown Farmers Market and will feature live entertainment by Garrett Newell.

• The Tifton Terminal Railway Museum will be open during market hours to showcase their array of historic railway paraphernalia. The museum features historic tools, photographs and artifacts, so be sure to check out this unique Tifton museum.

• The Tifton-Tift County Fire Department will have a fire truck on hand for kids to explore.

This year’s Downtown Tifton Farmer’s Market will include a host of scheduled events such as tasting days, local celebrity/politician appearances, educational events, book signings and more.

This year’s market is coordinated by J.J. Jackson.

“I’m excited about this year’s Farmer’s Market. I want to thank the volunteers who will be helping on our opening day. This year’s event will be special for everyone,” he said.

Following the grand opening, the Downtown Farmer’s Market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the platform of the Tifton Terminal Railroad Museum through October 11.
