Paul Whittington

OMEGA — Paul Whittington, 93, of Omega died Friday, May 9, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Omega Baptist Church with the Rev. Parker Hulsey and the Rev. Dan Eidson officiating. Interment will follow at Omega Cemetery.

Mr. Whittington’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Deacons and Senior Men’s Sunday school class of the Omega Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Whittington was born March 30, 1921 in Enigma to the late William and Pearl Fletcher Whittington. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Omega High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII in the European Theatre as a paramedic. Mr. Whittington retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was an active member at Omega Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He enjoyed playing the harmonica. Mr. Whittington was an avid coon hunter and a member of the Alapaha Coon Club. He enjoyed gardening, making cane syrup and he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially celebrations such as birthday parties.

Mr. Whittington is survived by his wife, Edna Faye Decker Whittington of Omega; four daughters and sons-in-law, Paulette and David Lairsey of Chula, Donna and Clay Yelverton of Ty Ty, Carol and Billy Lee of Norman Park and Janet and Ken Beaty of Hope Mills, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Lisa Whittington of Omega; special caregiver, Catrina Davis; grandchildren, David Lairsey Jr. and Tonya, Dawn Taylor and Craig, Justin Lairsey and Amanda, Tracie Grace and Craig, Jay Hall and Beverly, Laura Phillippi and Keith, William “Buddy” Lee and Mary Holley, Matthew Whittington and Clara, Joshua Whittington, Sean Beaty and Alayna Beaty; great-grandchildren, William Lairsey, Amber Lairsey, Dixon Taylor, Peyton Taylor, Wesley Taylor, Tanner Grace, Rylan Grace, Tucker Hall, Turner Hall, Mary Helen Lee, Maggie Lee, Christian Phillippi, Keilee Phillippi, Chandler Phillippi and Arabella Whittington.
