Rants & Raves - December 19

Since the city has extra money to refit the Tift Theatre, please fix the neon sign out front. Many of the bulbs are burned out. It is a beautiful sign when fully lit.
You know it is actually pretty simple – if you don't like the rules in the Historic District, don't buy property there and don't move your business there. To some people ignorance is just bliss.
With reference to the issue of the proposed bank at second street (old ice plant/old Branch Grocery): Mayor and City Council, this is the time to show that you have the skills and resolve that you were elected for and help place this bank at this eyesore location. Now tell me truly, if CVS Drugs at 8th and Love and Walgreens on Love Avenue are acceptable then certainly a bank would be equal or better. Remember our town does not belong to "Atlanta," but rather to Tifton’s citizens. Get the job done that you told voters that you could/would do!!
Having had some experience with these matters, I am of the opinion that the state, via the Historic Preservation Commission, does not have jurisdiction over the ice plant site. They may have an opinion, but I do not believe they have jurisdiction, as is evidenced by the wording in their opinion, which includes wording like "should," "may" etc. This is merely deflection, posturing and bluffing by locals who have their own agendas. My advice to the owner, either challenge the city, or better yet, tear it down.
So, per the article in The Gazette, a study has found that racism is responsible for premature births among blacks. Then the study stops there. Who, what and where is the racism? Why make a pointed hypothesis and base it on a bland generalization? No one sensible condones racism. Tell us who is doing what and we'll work together to stop it. I'm tired of the broad accusations.
When did it become OK to bring dogs into grocery stores or restaurants or anywhere people are eating food? I don't own any animals and they are not going into my home or my food.
