TIFTON — The Tift County Lady Devils were defeated by the Kennesaw Mountain Lady Mustangs in two straight games Wednesday.Game one of the series ended 3-1 and game two was 6-1.
The Lady Devils were held to only one hit until the seventh inning of the first contest. Taylor Corbett doubled and Rebecca Sexton singled. They would load the bases when Courtney Waldrop reached.
A force at the plate would be the second out of the inning, but Kaitlin Tucker delivered a single to score Sexton.
Kathryn Woody would retire Katelyn Hancock to end the threat and preserve the win.
Woody had 10 strikeouts in the game. Adriana Durden, who started for Tift, recorded seven. Waldrop came on in the sixth inning.
Neither team scored for the first three innings. Kennesaw brought two home in the fifth on a hit by Amber Johns. Their last run came in the sixth.
Tift's other hit was by Morgan Garrick.
In the second game, Tift took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a single by Callie McAllister. This would remain the score until the fourth, when the Lady Mustangs rallied for two runs. They added three in the fifth and one more in the sixth.
Durden and Waldrop also pitched game two. The Lady Devils were held to five hits, one each from Tucker, McCallister and Sexton and two by Allison Walker.
