Another Player of the Year award for Jackson

TIFTON — Another set of awards and more recognition came to the state champion Tift County Blue Devil basketball team Monday afternoon when the Georgia Sports Writers Association released its All-State teams. Tadric Jackson was named the Class AAAAAA Player of the Year and was joined by Dr. Eric Holland as that division's Coach of the Year.

This is the second Player of the Year and 1st team pick for Jackson in a week. He was recently named All-Classification Player of the Year by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The senior, who signed with Georgia Tech prior to the start of the season, scored 600 points, with an average of 18.8. He scored 15 in the 63-49 win over Wheeler in the title game, a week after scoring 35 of the Devils' 78 in the semis against Norcross.

Holland picks up his second Coach of the Year award, having taken the AJC's honor. In the past month, he has also been head coach of the South squad in the annual North-South game.

The GSWA's Mr. Basketball award went to Tookie Brown of Morgan County.  Te'a Cooper of McEachern was Miss Basketball

Only two other area players rated inclusion on the All-State lists. Elesha Foster of Cook was named 2nd team in Class AA and Turner County's Nate Martin was named honorable mention in A. The Turner boys were state runner-up in the public school division of their class, dropping a close 72-64 decision to Wilkinson County. Cook fell in the first round to Dublin.
