Charles Wilton Ross

TIFTON — Charles Wilton Ross, 86, of Tifton, died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Willson Hospice House in Albany.

 Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder Steve Pearce officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall.

Mr. Ross was born February 7, 1927 in Tift County to the late James Oren Ross Sr., and Annie Pearl Cromer Ross. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers. Mr. Ross lived most of his life in Tift County. He was owner of Ross Farms, Inc. and for many years he was a sales manager for Armour and Company and Lykes Brothers. Mr. Ross was an outdoorsman who loved the simple pleasures of living the rustic life. He valued the individual and found good in everyone he met. Mr. Ross loved his family and was happiest while in their company. His children and grandchildren always considered him a role model.

Mr. Ross is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Peri Lee Merchant Ross of Tifton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Dale Foy of Long Beach, Miss., Cindy and Steve Chandler of Greenville, S.C. and Joy and Billy Carmichael of Rome; two stepsons and their wives, Mitch and Melinda Willis of Gainesville and Todd and Dana Willis of Woodstock, Md.; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda Ross and Jimmy Vaughn of Tifton; seven grandchildren, Christy Smith, Ross Carmichael, Grant Carmichael, Drew Chandler, Laura Foy, Emily Carson and Julie Fortenberry; twelve great-grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
