J.W. “Jake” Lumpkin Sr.

ASHBURN — J.W. “Jake” Lumpkin Sr., 85, of Ashburn died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, after a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Harmony Baptist Church in Turner County with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Lumpkin was a native of Worth County and the son of the late Alton Lamar and Lois Clyde Lunsford Lumpkin. He was a retired service station operator and farm equipment salesman. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of The American Legion Post # 98. He also served two terms as an Ashburn city councilman. During his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and operating a tractor during pecan harvesting season. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Jim William Lumpkin Jr.; a sister, Carolyn Lumpkin Lunsford; and a brother, Bobby Lumpkin.

Survivors include his wife, Dot Lamb Lumpkin; son, Jim (Leann) Lumpkin of Ashburn; daughter, Debbie (Martin) Young and granddaughter, Audrey Young of Tifton; and brother, Lamar (Jewell) Lumpkin of Valdosta.
