No foul play expected in death of Tifton woman

TIFTON — The Tift County Sheriff’s Office and the Tift County coroner are investigating the death of an elderly Tift County woman. Her body was found in a pond behind her home late Friday afternoon, reported Lt. Col. Bobby Brannen with the TCSO in a Friday press release.

The incident occurred on Connell Road in eastern Tift County. Sheriff Gene Scarbrough told The Tifton Gazette Saturday that the victim, 80-year-old Mable Jackson Connell of Tifton, was at the house alone during the time of the incident. Her husband came home around 5 or 5:30 p.m. Friday and found her. Scarbrough said they were told that Connell had Alzheimer’s for about three or four years.

He said they don’t know why Connell walked to the pond by herself. As the investigation continues, he said they believe no foul play was involved.
