Heath Marcus Day

CHULA — Heath Marcus Day, 41, of Chula died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Randall Gay and the Rev. L. A. Pate will officiate with burial to follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula. Jason Day, Lee Burgess, Eric Fletcher, Daren Purvis, Rusty Johnson and Cody Johnson will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. today at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Day was born September 24, 1972 in Tift County and was the son of Jane Paulk Day of Chula and the late Don W. Day. He graduated with honors from Tiftarea Academy in 1990 and attended Mercer University and the University of Georgia. He was employed helping companies set up computer systems. He spent most of his adult life in Seattle, Wash. and moved back to Chula in 2002. He loved his cat, Snowflake and enjoyed his mother's and aunt's good cooking. He was a loving, warm-hearted and generous person and loved his grandparents, Joe and Juanita Day.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Day is survived by his aunts and uncles, Joe and J. W. Underwood of Chula, Martha and Eddie Sklany of Tifton, Gloria and Larry Fletcher of Donalsonville and Charles Lee Day of Marietta; and several cousins.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to American Cancer Society Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge, 1552 Shoupe Court, Decatur, GA 30033.

Condolences may be sent to the family at the online guest registry at www.bowen-donaldson.com.  Services for the Day family are under the care and direction of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

    LEOs and first responders honored at banquet

    A room full of local law enforcement and first responders were honored Thursday night by the Tifton Elks Lodge at their annual Public Safety Officer Appreciation and Awards Banquet for their service in the community.
    Prior to the awards being given out, Louise Spradley, who organized the banquet, welcomed everyone, and the invocation and pledge were led by the Tift County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
