Dorothea “Dottie” Marsteller Marchant

TIFTON — Dorothea “Dottie” Marsteller Marchant, 91, of Tifton, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday  in the memorial chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with Dr. W. Wayne Roe officiating. The American Legion, Post No. 21 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Marchant was born July 16, 1922 in Wheatland, Penn. to the late Leroy and Beva Miles Marsteller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Warren H. Marchant; three daughters, Linda LaRue Marchant, Donna Marchant Nix and Dora Marchant Arnsdorff; one brother and one sister.

Mrs. Marchant served as a nurse, in the U.S. Army Corps during WWII. After the war she continued working as an RN, a private duty nurse, director of Nursing for numerous healthcare facilities and for the Tift County school system. She was a member and past post commander for the American Legion Post 21 and a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 21 where she also served in various other offices.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tifton.

Mrs. Marchant is survived by her two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lennon L. Marchant of Marietta and Warren H. “Chip”  and Karla Marchant Jr. of Tifton; one sister, Alice Roysden of Peachtree City; her grandchildren, Warren H. “Trae”  and Courtney Marchant III, Jenna Lynn Marchant Wisham, Drew Jacob Marchant, Darla and Mack Arnsdorff, Scott Lee Marchant and Hope Nix; great-grandchild, Kane Ethan Wisham; one step-granddaughter-in-law, Laura Marchant  and her daughter, Emily Anne Marchant of Marietta and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North American Mission Board, c/o First Baptist Church, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794.

    LEOs and first responders honored at banquet

    A room full of local law enforcement and first responders were honored Thursday night by the Tifton Elks Lodge at their annual Public Safety Officer Appreciation and Awards Banquet for their service in the community.
    Prior to the awards being given out, Louise Spradley, who organized the banquet, welcomed everyone, and the invocation and pledge were led by the Tift County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
