Regular season resumes for area hoops

TIFTON —  It will be back to the grind this weekend for most Tiftarea basketball teams. With the end of Christmas tournaments, it is time for region schedules to start up, though a few made their debuts in December.

The Tift County Blue Devils will start 2014 on the road, at Brunswick on Friday. Saturday, they play at home against Camden County. This will be the first time the boys and girls teams have played in the same venue since Dec. 14. Tiftarea Academy's Panthers play only once over the weekend — home versus Fullington Academy Friday — but also have a Monday game at Crisp Academy.

Turner County has a weekend at home. Charlton County will be coming in Friday and Wilcox County will be arriving Saturday. Cook is also at home and will be playing their first Region 1-AA games of the year, Friday against Brooks County and Saturday against Pelham.

Berrien, who started their region campaign just before Christmas, starts off with a non-region contest Friday when they host Worth County. They will be at Brooks Saturday. For Worth, the Berrien game is their only one of the weekend.

Fitzgerald is also only playing one game, at Early County on Friday.

Irwin County will be avoiding gymnasiums this weekend. They won't see action again until Tuesday when they host Wilcox.
