Lady Devils play Norland today

TIFTON — The Tift County Lady Devils play the first of three games this afternoon in Moultrie at the Colquitt Christmas Shoot Out. They will be spending three days in the city, playing two Florida schools and one Georgia one.

They will play the Norland Lady Vikings of Miami, Fla. in a scheduled 5:30 p.m. tip-off. Thursday. Friday, they are scheduled to go at 7 p.m. against the Lady Raiders of Tallahassee's Rickards. Saturday has them facing the Newton Lady Rams at 4 p.m.

The 4-5 Lady Devils will be trying to improve their luck against the Sunshine State. Last weekend, they lost a pair of road games to Bartram Trail and Ribault.

Norland is 6-5, in the midst of an up and down season. They have held three of their opponents to less than 10 points, including a 62-3 win Dec. 17, but have been held to 43 points or less in all of their losses. They have won their last two games.

Rickards has a 9-5 mark and are also winners of their last two contests. They will be well familiar with Georgia schools by the time they face Tift. Their first game in the Colquitt Shoot Out will be against Lucy Laney Wednesday. Prior to that, they had their own holiday happenings, where they faced Early County and Westover and faced Colquitt twice early in the season.

The only Georgia school of the lot for the Lady Devils, Newton is 7-3. One of those losses came by forfeit in a Thanksgiving tournament team against South Gwinnett. They will be playing Crisp County Thursday and Colquitt County Friday before they take on Tift.

Following the series in Moultrie, the Lady Devils will be off until Jan. 3 when they head for Brunswick to play their first region game of the year. Their next home game is Jan. 4, against Camden County.

Brunswick is also participating in the Colquitt Christmas Shoot Out, playing Monroe, Norland and Washington County.
