Rants and Raves for Dec. 26

I have traveled extensively in this country and abroad and fully understand and support the preservation of significant buildings for historical and aesthetic reasons. However, for every structure that should be preserved there are dozens that have served their usefulness. In Tifton, there are many beautiful old homes and businesses that should be preserved, and there are others that had few architectural graces when built and have not aged gracefully. I believe the old ice house/grocery store belongs in the latter category. On your next drive through town, stop and take an objective look at this building and try to make a case for preservation. Bet it will be tough!

The Democrats in Congress passed a law they never read and turned it over to a president who has never run anything but his mouth, and it is a disaster. What a shock! Now this totally inept liar, who was elected because of " the color of his skin, not the content of his character," is attempting to save his own hide with almost weekly "adjustments" to the law itself, all of which are most likely unconstitutional and violate the separation of powers. The tragedy in the above scenario is not that we have become accustomed to the daily lies and deceit from our professional politicians but that millions of Americans have and will fall victim to this glorified Ponzi scheme known as the Affordable Care Act. Everyone voting for this train wreck should be run out of town on a rail!

The Duck Dynasty redneck has the right to speak freely but he doesn't have any guaranteed right to be a central figure in some TV show. He should be prepared to accept the consequences of his crude, homophobic remarks. I doubt that there are very many sponsors who would want to be associated with such a person.

So now anybody who opposes the idea of a Historic District is a bully. A lot of people who contribute to Rants & Raves can't discuss a point without resorting to personal name-calling. "Ignorant" is a popular choice to describe people with differing opinions. If these people aren't clever enough to come up with some logical argument to support their position, they should just give us all a break and stay out of the discussion.
