Ray N. Hunt Sr.


Ray N. Hunt Sr., 92, of Omega, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Omega Methodist Church with Mr. Tom Hunt and the Rev. Gary Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Omega City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 until 2:30 Wednesday at Omega Methodist Church.
Matt Hunt, Ray Pharr, Adam Feyko, Ryan Mercer, Mike Hunt and Terry Pharr will serve as active pallbearers. Bobby Jones, Willie Scarbor, Tubby Hawkins, Charles Sumner, Pait Willis and Jones Ponder will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Hunt was born April 8, 1921 in Omega to the late Ernest R. and Estelle Hickman Hunt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine “Cat” Bishop Hunt who died in 2006. A brother, Jack T. Hunt, two sisters, Louise Tinko and Elizabeth Thomas, a daughter-in-law, Jo Shannon Hunt and a son-in-law, Michael E. Page.
 Mr. Hunt lived all his life in Omega. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Hunt was a self-employed welder for more than 50 years and a fireman with the Omega Fire Department, serving as Chief for 40 years. He was a former Councilman for the City of Omega who enjoyed fishing, riding country roads and boiling peanuts with his friends at his welding shop. He was a member of the Omega Methodist Church.
Mr. Hunt is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ray Jr., and Louise Spires Hunt of Omega; a daughter, Susan Hunt Page of Braselton; grandchildren, Kristie Pharr of Omega, Nicky and Adam Feyko of Braselton and Alaina and Ryan Mercer of Duluth; step-grandson, Brian and Carrie Wright; great-grandchildren, Amanda and Bobby Blanchard, Ray Pharr, Noah Feyko, Grayson Feyko, Charleigh Mercer and Chatham Mercer; great-great grandchildren, Kristina Mothershed and Taylor Mothershed.
Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the Omega Methodist Church, P.O. Box 205, Omega, GA 31775.

    LEOs and first responders honored at banquet

    A room full of local law enforcement and first responders were honored Thursday night by the Tifton Elks Lodge at their annual Public Safety Officer Appreciation and Awards Banquet for their service in the community.
    Prior to the awards being given out, Louise Spradley, who organized the banquet, welcomed everyone, and the invocation and pledge were led by the Tift County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
