Lady Devils qualify for sectionals, Devils miss by one stroke

VALDOSTA — The Tift County Lady Devils qualified for sectionals at the Region 1-AAAAAA golf championships held at Valdosta Country Club Monday, but the Blue Devils are out by the slightest of margins.

The top team automatically qualifies for state, with the next three finishers going to sectionals. The Devils shot a combined 316, good for fifth place. Fourth place and final school in was Camden County, who had a 315.

First place went to Colquitt County at 305. Lowndes was second, shooting 308.

It was a double region championship victory for Colquitt, who took the girls title by 15 strokes over Camden’s 245. The Lady Devils were two behind them, with a 247. Fourth went to Coffee’s 297.

The region low medalists for the event were Marin Hanna whose 74 for Colquitt led the girls and Coffee’s Mason Harper, who shot 71.

Individual results for the Lady Devils saw Kelsie Belan shoot 79, Anna Greer, 82, Lynise Belan, 86, and Sarah Hampton, 97.

The Devils had two individuals finish in the 70s — Jake Flynt (76) and Robert Doolan (77). Grant Metts shot 81, Zach Forshee, 82, and Beau Hightower and Ty Gore each finished at 84.

Sectionals will take place Monday, May 6, at Brookfield West Country Club in Roswell.
