98 campers out at Devil Diamond

TIFTON — Tift County Blue Devil Head Baseball Coach Kyle Kirk has had a lot of company this week.

Kirk and his coaching staff, along with some of his players and volunteers, have been working with 98 young ball players during the annual Tift County Blue Devil Youth Baseball Camp.

“It has been a great week,” said Kirk.

The campers are not only from Tift County, as some are as from far away as Brooklet. There are also campers present from Tiftarea Academy, Irwin County, Cook County and Turner County, Kirk said.

“We have worked on fundamentals every day, and we have also had several scrimmage games,” said Kirk.

The camp will end Friday with T-shirts being given out, as well as lunch, which is being provided by Chick-fil-A, being given out.

“We are going to give out awards, and have contests like home run derby, strongest arm and who is the fastest around the bases,” said Kirk.

Kirk and his staff have also been busy with the school’s summer team.

“We went over to Lee County and won 8-7 and 4-3 last (Monday) night,” said Kirk.
