Latrelle Gaff Dixon

TIFTON — Latrelle Gaff Dixon, 75, of Tifton, died Thursday, Jan. 09, 2014, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Tifton with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Dixon’s nephews, Jad Dixon, Wesley Paulk, Keith Wynn, David Dixon, Daniel Dixon, Brad Phillips, David Pearson, Don Pearson Jr. and Mike Pearson will serve as active pallbearers. The Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Dorminy, Dr. Raleigh Haynes and Jim Scott.

Mrs. Dixon was born April 6, 1938 in Ben Hill County to the late Gene Gaff and Doris Barnes Butler. She was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Ira Paulk and John Alan “Snake” Dixon; and a sister-in-law, Jacquie Dixon. Mrs. Dixon earned her BS in Music (Voice) from the University of Georgia. She was the choral director at Osborne Junior High in Marietta from 1962-65 and at Richmond Academy in Augusta from 1965-69. Mrs. Dixon was a member of First Baptist Church in Tifton where she was interim music director on two separate occasions and was also a frequent soloist. She was an avid gardener who loved to watch the Georgia Bulldogs, traveling, fishing and. most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Dixon is survived by her husband, Dr. Sammie D. Dixon M.D. of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sammie D. and Kim Dixon Jr., of Tallahassee, Fla., and Patrick and Debora Dixon of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Sara Beth and Philip Pomeroy of Cairo; six grandchildren, Sammie D. Dixon III, Sadie Blue Dixon, Corbin Daniels Dixon, Mia Patricia Dixon, Anna Katherine Pomeroy and Isabelle Dixon Pomeroy; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Doreen Gaff of High Springs, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mynelle and Robert LaPoint of Waldo, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Paulk of Ocilla and Belinda Dixon of Fitzgerald; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Barbara Dixon of Fitzgerald; and several nieces and nephews.
