Elton Lloyd Copeland

GRIFFIN — Elton Lloyd Copeland, 65, of Griffin (formerly of Tifton) died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at his residence in Griffin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Eastside Baptist Church, Tifton with the Rev. Greg Love and the Rev. Larry Layfield officiating. Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Walt Deloach officating. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Albritton – Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Richardson, Carl Johnson, Robert Caldwell, Simmy McKeown, Ernest Harris, Freddy Shelton, Eddie Shelton and Dan Everett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Copeland, Monty Copeland, Jason Shelton, Chuck Shelton, Claude Ross, Scotty Rogers, Steven Rogers, Larry Scarborough, Ricky Scarborough, Bob Lynch, Eugene Mainor, Bill Meadows, Morris Giddens, Rod Griffin, Lennon Copeland, Joe Lewis and Walker Jones.

Mr. Copeland was born July 23, 1948 in Tift County to the late Elias and Vera Daniel Copeland. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Scarborough, Margaret Denby and Ruth Hobbs. Mr. Copeland graduated from ABAC and the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Zoology. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Vietnam War as a medic. Mr. Copeland was a retired research technician with the United States Department of Agriculture. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan who enjoyed golfing, country music, gardening and watching Jeopardy. Mr. Copeland adored his grandchildren and his dog Roxie. He was a man of faith and a dedicated member of Eastside Baptist Church who is now resting with the Lord.

Mr. Copeland is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Shelton Copeland of Griffin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nikki and Garret Wellman of Duluth and Loren and Nicholas Bland of Griffin; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Bruce Copeland, Earl and Sandra Copeland and Gerald and Diane Copeland, all of Tifton; one sister, Ann Ennis of Ty Ty; four grandchildren, Anna Wellman, Lochlann Wellman, Colin Bland and Kinsley Bland.

Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to Hope Health Clinic of Spalding County, 409 W. Solomon St. Griffin, GA 30223.
