A pursuit Tuesday afternoon from Sparks into Tifton led to the arrest of one man and two injuries.
SFC Brian Gay, post commander of Tifton’s Georgia State Patrol Post 13, said Timothy Lee Strawter, 27, of Sanford, Fla. was driving a 2014 Cadillac SUV rental as he sped past an officer with the Sparks Police Department on Interstate 75. Also in the car were passengers Bruce Hipsher, 25, also of Sanford, Fla. and Shaneka Brown, 25, of Orlando, Fla.
Gay said Strawter failed to stop when the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop and continued north. As Strawter steered the vehicle off on Exit 49 (Lenox) and then get back on the interstate, the Lenox Police Department became involved in the chase, which continued northbound.
Strawter continued to flee from law enforcement by getting off on Exit 55. He made a left and went west. After making a right on Union Road and traveling to the intersection at Oakridge Church Road, a GSP trooper with the Tifton post waited, deploying stop sticks.
Gay said Strawter swerved in order to avoid the stop sticks and lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. Hipsher and Brown were ejected.
Brown, who received a neck injury, was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center. Hipsher, who received an injury to his spine, was life-flighted to a Macon hospital and is in critical condition, said Gay. He said Strawter, who received no injuries, was taken into custody and is currently in the Cook County Jail. He noted the Cadillac was traveling more than 100 mph during the chase.
Charges against Strawter related to the crash are pending, says Gay.
Due to the holiday Wednesday, no one from the Sparks Police Department was available for comment.
