Another fire reported; May be suspicious

Another vehicle fire was reported early Wednesday morning on Esther Lane.

According to an incident report filed at the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, deputy Chris Spires reported that when arriving to a fire on Esther Lane shortly after 1 a.m., he observed a silver colored 1999 Mercedes Benz fully engulfed in flames. The Tifton-Tift County Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the blaze. The complainant reported that she awoke and found the vehicle on fire. She then called 911.

Fire Chief Mike Coleman said they haven’t determined yet the cause of this fire. They’re unsure at this time if it’s suspicious or not.

In another matter, a Walmart employee reported Monday that two black males were able to steal $2,800 from a cash register Sunday.

A video revealed that at 4:46 p.m. Sunday, a black male wearing jeans, a dark shirt and black hat with gray hair came to the register and purchased a bottle of water with cash. Before the cashier closed the register, the subject began to distract her by asking her to exchange some coins for paper money.

While the cashier was distracted, another black male wearing tan pants, a maroon shirt and tan hat walked up behind her. At 4:48 p.m., the subject removed a stack of cash from the left section of the cash register that was still open. The employee reported that the cash stolen totaled $2,800.

After the cashier saw the second black male standing behind her, she closed the cash drawer. He then exited the store on the general merchandise exit first. The first subject exited shortly after.

In other unrelated cases:

• A woman who lives in the 600 block of Southbrook Drive reported Monday that someone shot her home.
