Devils’ Powell named 1st team 1-AAAAAA

TIFTON — Football honors for Region 1-AAAAAA were recently announced and the Tift County Blue Devils had several players earn recognition.

They had a single representative on the first team, Ike Powell, who was named as an offensive lineman. Powell, a senior, has committed to Vanderbilt as a long snapper and will be playing in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on Jan. 5.

Second team honorees were Ladarius Stewart (RB), Javier Clark (OL), Malik Henry (WR), Mason Gann (P) and Devarious Butler (DB). Six were placed on the honorable mention squad: Ryan Wedgeworth (QB), Malik Pittman (WR), Hunter Winters (OL), Steven Waters (DB), Zack Abbott (DB) and Jalen Johnson (DL).

Coach of the year honors went to Welton Coffey of Camden County. Camden won the region championship, but fell in the second round of the state playoffs. Camden’s Kalvaraz Bessent was named overall player of the year while Corey Dixon (Brunswick) and Tre’ Jackson (Lowndes) were named offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively. Valdosta’s Mac Loudermilk was named special teams player of the year, Antonio Wimbush of Camden was athlete of the year and utility player of the year went to Anthony Fussell of Coffee.
