Turner Rebels wallop Charlton in scoring melee

TIFTON — The Turner County Rebels tested the strength of their scoreboard Friday night against the Charlton County Indians. In a pair of varsity games, it had to withstand a barrage of 296 points, 185 of them at the hands of the Rebels. The Lady Rebels doubled up the Maidens, 77-33, and the Rebels dominated their opponents, 108-78.

The Lady Rebels wasted no time getting started. They had a 20-8 lead after the first and were up 39-16 at the half. Far from taking it easy, they outscored Charlton 16-7 in the third and 22-10 in the fourth.

Fifty of Turner’s points came at the hands of seniors Zenia Coley and Antania Graddic, who scored 28 and 22, respectively. Graddic also had 14 rebounds. Also in double digits were senior Kaliyah Glover and freshman Mylashia Yancey. The team is now 18-5 on the season.

Charlton made it a close game with the Rebels for a half. Turner held a 21-18 lead after the first eight minutes and were up by 10 at halftime. The Indians would not falter in the second half, but were unable to keep up with the torrid scoring pace.

Turner outscored the Indians 33-22 in the third period to take a 77-56 lead and would pop another 30-point quarter in the fourth, this time manhandling the opposition, 33-22 for the 108-78 finish.
