ESMS girls track team finishes perfect season

TIFTON — The Eighth Street Middle School girls track team wrapped up an undefeated season on Thursday by winning the South Georgia Atlantic Conference at Pine Grove Middle School in Valdosta.

The team recorded a 5-0 mark on the season.

ESMS earned 114 points in the meet, well enough to top the next closest mark of 77 recorded by Coffee. Pine Grove, Valdosta and Colquitt wrapped up the top five.

Jamesha McCray helped lead the way, getting wins in both the shot and the discus. Kaleigh Hobby also helped add more points to the ESMS total with a third-place finish in the discus.

Aquilla Hayes kept the winning trend alive for the Lady Devils with a third-place finish in the long jump and a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Dail Adaway finished first in the high jump, Vanity Golson finished second in the 100-meter dash, and Madison Honeycutt finished the 1,600-meter run in under six minutes to claim first in the event. Honeycutt also had a second place finish in the 800-meter run.

The relay team of Chastity Butts, Chinaza Moore, Hayes and Golson recorded a time of 1:56 in the 800-meter relay— good enough for second place.

The Lady Devils wrapped up their season with the win, and head coach Bobby Fresh is proud of the way her team performed.

“These young ladies were undefeated on the season, and I could not be prouder of their accomplishments,” she said.

Lowndes and Hahira also took part in the meet, finishing sixth and seventh respectively.
