Panthers end season with 35-7 loss

CHULA — On Senior Night in Chula, the Tiftarea Academy Panthers fell 35-7 to the Westfield Hornets.

Westfield scored on five of their six first half drives to go up 35-0. With two seconds left in the half, Ethan Mims caught a screen pass from Rob Flick and broke loose for 85 yards, but was tripped up two yards short of the goal line.

At halftime, Tiftarea honored their three senior football players (Jake Ball, Matthew Turner, and Taylor Boothe) along with all of the 2013 senior class.

The Panthers defense kept Westfield out of the end zone in the second half, and, with seven seconds left in the third quarter, Turner capped off a seven minute, 86-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run for the only Panther score of the night. Logan Brown's extra point made the score 35-7.

Rob Flick completed 18 of 34 passes for 268 yards. Zach Beier caught eight of those passes for 86 yards, Connor Kozma caught four for 25 yards, and Mims caught two for 93 yards.

Head coach Ryan Branch said, "I am proud of the effort our guys gave to the very end. We have continued to improve all season long. Our three seniors will be missed, but we are excited about the group we've got coming back next year."
