All-Region teams named for 1-A, 2-AA

ASHBURN — The All-Region 1-A and 2-AA football teams were recently released. Both squads were voted on by the coaches in each respective league.
After capturing the league title, the Turner County Rebels dominated the All-Region 1-A team.
Leading the way is Mikel Soliday, the Offensive Player of the Year, and Lennie Richardson, the Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Rebel head coach Erik Soliday was also named the league’s Coach of the Year by his 1-A brethren.
Rebels that were named first-team were Soliday at quarterback, Richardson at linebacker, running back Chad Walker, as well as wide receivers Shawn Jackson and Dontavious Smith.
Second-team players from Turner County were offensive lineman Jordan Hanner, tight end David Stevenson, wide receiver Demario Barber, defensive linemen Darryn Odom and Kenyon Carr, linebacker Daniel Sheffield and defensive back Jeremy Stevenson.
Honorable mention players from the Rebels were Clint Cawley, Michael Morrison, George Ford, C.J. Hille, Adam Brock, Patrick Wilson and Javonte Thomas.
After winning the league title for the second year in a row, it was a good season for the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes.
Fitzgerald’s Nate Inman was named the Region 2-AA Offensive Player of the Year by the league coaches, while Jarrel Paschal was named the 2-AA Defensive Player of the Year.
Besides those two Hurricanes, the Special Teams Player of the Year was Irwin County Indian P.J. Florence.
Fitzgerald players named to the first-team offense were Inman at fullback, Johnathan Roberts at running back, Darian Austile at wide receiver, Chad Thompson at tight end, as well as Travis Fleming and Markus Walker along the offensive line.
Defensively, first-team Hurricanes were linemen Paschal and Byron Scott, linebacker Kiyati Nicolas, and defensive back Corey Taylor.
Thompson was named the first-team punter and Victor Ayala was named the first-team place-kicker.
Florence dominated things for Irwin County. Besides being named the league’s Special Teams Player of the Year, the senior was also named first-team at running back and at defensive back.
Joining him from Irwin County on the first-team offense is lineman Justin Anderson.
The second-team offense features Fitzgerald’s Dion Ross at running back, Irwin County’s Chavarious Carlton at fullback, Hurricane center Russ Ridgeway and Indian offensive lineman Julian Northcutt.
