Fitzgerald, Worth, Cook move to second round; Irwin loses

Brookstone 31, Irwin County 21

The Irwin County Indians were defeated in the first round by Brookstone Friday despite another highlight in the stellar career of senior Terry Ashley.

Ashley ran for 119 yards and had more than 100 yards receiving for the Indians. He caught touchdown passes of 30, 54 and 23 yards from Clint Paulk while also recording more than 10 tackles on defense.

Worth County 33, Burke County 12

Buster Jackson ran for 134 yards on 23 carries to lead the Worth County Rams past the Burke County Bears Friday in the opening round.

Meshack Williams also had four sacks in the win over the higher-seeded opponent. Jordan Lawson also blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown.

Cook 42, Swainsboro 27

The Cook High Hornets gained 471 yards Friday to topple Swainsboro in the opening round.

Thad Williams had 198 yards on 12 carries and 70 yards on three catches to pace a Hornets offense that gained 368 yards on the ground. He also intercepted a pass, as did C.W. Shaw. Shannon Brown recovered a fumble for Cook.
