Staff reports

TIFTON — The Irwin County Indians fell 33-12 Friday night to the Wilcox County Patriots in a Region 2-A football game.

Even with the loss, Irwin will be in the state playoffs, and will most likely face the 10-0 Savannah Christian Raiders, the champions of Region 3-A. That game will be next weekend.

Against Wilcox, Irwin got two touchdown runs from Bernard Baker on offense. Defensively, seniors Fred Marshall, Bradley Tucker, Eric Lawton and Terrance Woodard.

In Sylvester, the Worth County Rams got a field goal with 1:42 left in the game to give them a 17-14 lead over the Monroe High Tornadoes. Then on the last play of the game, a Rams’ player intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown to give Worth a 23-14 victory.

With the win, Worth will be the third seed out of Region 1-AAA in the first round of the state football playoffs next week.
