Berrien has to figure out way to move on Fitzgerald

TIFTON — In a battle of two football teams from the Tiftarea, the Berrien High Rebels will travel up the road Friday night to face the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes at Jaycee Stadium.
The game will pit two teams from Region 1-AA. Berrien is 1-3 in the league, while the Hurricanes are 3-0 in league play.
Fitzgerald is also 5-0 overall and is ranked third in the Associated Press Class AA state poll.
Overall this season, the Purple Hurricanes have only allowed 33 points. On the other hand, Berrien has only scored 27 points and has been held scoreless since the third game of the year, a 20-6 win at Albany.
Khalid Lamar, 141 yards on 44 carries, and Armad Turner, 139 yards on 58 carries, have been the leading rushers on the year for the Rebels.
Quarterback Cameron Jones has passed for 139 yards and has completed 14-of-35 passes.
Tre Harris has caught five passes for 17 yards, while Demetrius Newsome has caught four passes for 70 yards.
Reid Cornelius, Skylar Morris and Quaz Harris have been among the Berrien defensive leaders.
Helping hold opponents in check for Fitzgerald this season have Jemea Thomas and John Smith among others.
The Hurricanes have only allowed 197 yards rushing this season and only 235 yards passing.
On the other side of the ball, Thomas leads Fitzgerald’s rushing game with 360 yards on 34 carries. Larry King has 229 yards on 39 carries, while Nick Williams has 213 yards on 37 carries.
Trenton Pruitt has rushed for 200 yards on 29 carries and has also caught 10 passes for 91 more yards.
Starting quarterback Brad Taylor has passed for 376 yards and has completed 29-of-60 passes.
R.J. Davis has 130 yards receiving on seven catches. Thomas also has seven receptions for 120 yards.
