Hurricanes remain unbeaten with 37-15 win

Twiggs County 14

TIFTON — The Turner County Rebels remained red hot Friday night with a 36-14 victory over the Twiggs County Cobras. It was the second Region 2-A victory in a row for the Rebels, and the fifth overall win for coach Erik Soliday’s squad.

Javon Caswell opened up the Rebel scoring with a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown. Hiawatha Parker would then add a 72-yard touchdown pass from Kenveyon Newberry. Parker would also add the two-point conversion on his touchdown.

Todd Lawson would then score two of the next three Turner touchdowns. He had a 52-yard pass from Newberry, and a 97-yard interception return. Dee Hayles added the two-point conversion on the passing score.

Newberry would also have a rushing touchdown for the Rebels. His score was followed by a two-point run by Caswell.

“We have been fortunate, so far,” said Turner coach Erik Soliday. “We just hope to keep the slipper on.”

Newberry was 12-for-19 for 242 yards, while Parker had five catches for 130 yards.

The Rebels will be back at home Friday with a 2-A encounter against Telfair County.
