The Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane opened Region 2-AA play with a 41-13 beating over Randolph-Clay Friday in Cuthbert.
With 10:43 left in the second quarter Fitzgerald’s Dion Ross scored on a 58-yard run. Victor Ayala made the extra point.
Nick Williams scored on a 4-yard scamper with 6:23 left in the quarter. Ayala added the kick.
Williams added another touchdown on a 6-yard run with 3:33 left.
After a Randolph-Clay fumble, Fitzgerald’s Corey Taylor ran the ball in from 37 yards out. Ayala added the extra point.
Taylor scored again on a 3-yard run. Ayala booted the extra point with 7:26 left in the third quarter.
With just over a minute in the third quarter, Ward Massee recovered a fumble in the end zone for Fitzgerald. Ayala added the point.
In the fourth quarter, Randolph-Clay scored on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Cody Hughley to Marcus Nighten. The extra point was good.
Randolph-Clay added another score on a 25-yard pass from Hughley to Marcus Adams. The extra point failed.
Williams finished with 130 yards on 17 carries while Ross had 157 yards on only six carries. Taylor had 39 yards on three carries.
