Don’t get mad at the innocent bystanders

By Steve Carter/Sports Editor

Agree, disagree or do whatever you want with ABAC’s decision to drop basketball.

But don’t take it out on innocent bystanders.

When all of this came about, one of the first ,things I said to myself was this may end up hurting several of ABAC’s current athletes.

Some people upset with the school’s decision to drop basketball will see an athlete from tennis, softball, baseball, soccer or golf as the enemy in this, and they are not.

They are just like the basketball players; they are going to college to play the sport they love and to try to get an education.

So please don’t take out your frustration on another ABAC athlete.

While I am at it, I have also heard stories about people verbally confronting ABAC employees.

Why would you do that? It doesn’t make any sense at all.

It would be like going to the White House and jumping on a secretary for something you believe President Bush did wrong.

There are a lot of good people at ABAC that had nothing to do with this decision. Even if you vehemently disagree with it, don’t take it out on them.

Now to a slightly less controversial topic. The Tift County High football team will host its annual passing tournament today.

While TCHS will be the biggest school involved, it should be a good test for Tift County.

Turner County will bring a lot of good athletes to town, and it will be interesting to see the enthusiasm of the Berrien High Rebels under new head coach Ryan Branch.

Toombs County always fields a strong team in Class AA, and coach Robby Robinson’s McIntosh County Academy squad also has had a number of quality athletes over the year.
