After coming back to win Game Two of its best -of-three Class AAAAA playoff series Friday night, the Tift County Blue Devils baseball team was eliminated from the first round of the state playoffs Saturday against the Camden County Wildcats.

Camden won the Saturday encounter with a 6-2 win. That gave the Wildcats a 2-1 win in the series. Camden won Game One Friday, 19-18, only to see Tift come back to win Game Two, 10-2.

Saturday saw Camden break out to a 3-0 lead.

Tift would then come back to the advantage 3-2 with a pair of runs in the third on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Brunty, and a RBI single off the bat of Taylor Price.

But that was as close as Tift would get as Camden would score two more runs in the fifth, and one in the seventh to take the win.

Tift did have chances in the final innings, as the Devils left seven men on base in the final three innings.

A play that showed Tift’s frustration came in the sixth as Chance Veazey hit a line shot to first with the bases loaded that saw the Wildcat first baseman make a great play on the ball.

Ryan Casey led Tift at the plate with two hits. Veazey, Tyce Moore, Price and Hunter McAllister had one hit apiece.

To make it to Game Three, Tift came back Friday night after falling in Game One, 19-18, to win 10-2 in the second contest.

Ben Watson went the distance to pick up the pitching win. The senior had a no-hitter in the contest and allowed two unearned runs on three Devil errors. He struck out three, walked one and hit one batter in the game.

Moore had Tift’s big offensive blow in the game with a three-run homer in the fifth. He also had one RBI on a fielder‘s choice. Jacob Stinson also had a solo blast in the contest.

Casey had two RBIs in the game, while Sy Crumley had two hits, and two RBIs. McAllister also had one hit.

Veazey had two hits, and Rhett Hammond had one hit, and one RBI.

Martin also had one RBI on a sacrifice fly.
