TIFTON — In only the team’s second year of existence, the Tift County Lady Devils finished seventh in the state Class AAAAA golf tournament held Monday at the Indian Mounds course at Jekyll Island.

The Lady Devils shot a 178 to garner their seventh-place finish.

“It is real good, considering we are only in our second year as a program,” coach Rusty Smith said of his team’s high finish. “It is unreal.”

He added, “We were just trying to take in the experience of being here.”

Brooke Spinks led Tift with an 88, while Rachel Segers shot a 90.

Jaclyn Harten also had a 101 for the Lady Devils.

Tift’s performance sealed a good day for Region 1-AAAAA as league champ Colquitt County took fourth overall in the state with a 168.

The Lady Packers’ Anna Lee Keith shot a 74 in the event to give Colquitt the second low medalist in the state.
