Rants and Raves for November 5

No stretching

“In fact, I am in favor of the Electoral College. Then again, I have a strict interpretation of the Constitution whereas I would assume you (and many others) have an elastic view - believing it should be changed to suit the whims of the American people. I believe in the original idea of America, in which each state is its own entity - not just a puppet of the federal government. This is why I believe we should abolish the 17th amendment, keep the Electoral College - and ‘throw the bums out!’

Skills first

“To ‘A shame’: Perhaps the bigger shame is that everyone seems to be under the impression that every high school graduate deserves to go to college. The reality is that the 25 percent of graduates who have the skills to succeed in college are the only ones that should be there.”

Local jobs

“Instead of all these furloughs for city employees, it seems to me the two streets needing repair shouldn't go out to bid. ...The city could purchase material, equipment and utilize its own labor for half that bid, not to mention have the necessary equipment for future road repairs, saving yet more money and creating local jobs.”

The best

“Welcome Hog-N-Bones!!! Your breakfast is the best in town!!! I've gotten a biscuit almost every morning — it's that good!!!”
